Do Me a Favour Buddy

Co-created a clickable prototype for a mobile app, from concept to MVP.

About the Project:

Do Me a Favour Buddy (DMAFB) is a concept started by a clinical researcher looking to build a platform for spreading random acts of kindness. By using AI and machine learning algorithms, his team aims to train personalized acts of kindness that factor in personality traits, identities, and life circumstances. Our team collaborated with DMAFB to transform this idea into a tangible design, conducting thorough user research and strategic prototyping.

Our collaboration resulted in a high-fidelity prototype, to begin development January 2025.

Findings & Recommendations

Research & Strategy

In our first few calls with DMAFB, we learned their team had already completed robust, preliminary research to build a solid foundation for a product. Their team, led by a clinical researcher and behavioral scientist, had developed comprehensive user research artifacts, behavioral profiles, and onboarding flows. This allowed us to move quickly into the design phase with a clear, user-centered understanding of the product's core value proposition.

Onboarding artifact supplied by DMAFB team

As a team we were able to identify and create a strategic framework for generating personalized acts of kindness, focusing on gamification and strong onboarding to create stickiness within the app and help users develop the habit of practicing kindness.

Prototyping - “Communities” Page

I was in charge of prototyping the “Communities” concept, a section of the app where users can find or create teams for community building with like-minded individuals. This section was especially important because, while this is a B2C mobile app, DMAFB also wanted to incorporate a monetized B2B option. “Communities” page accommodated this requirement by allowing employers to create teams for their employees to build their own kindness practice and bond in a way that also promotes self development.

Usability Testing

Moving from sketches, to low-fidelity, to high-fidelity

Once the low-fidelity prototype was completed, my team conducted usability tests and pinpointed 3 main areas that needed to be optimized for understanding:

  1. Onboarding Clarity: Users were confused by the purpose of personal questions, navigation, and overall app functionality during initial interactions.

  2. Act of Kindness Workflow: Participants struggled to understand the expected actions, sharing process, and logging mechanism for acts of kindness.

  3. Progress Tracking: Users found it difficult to locate and access their past progress within the app.
